Molecular formula: Mg(OH)2
Molecular Weight: 58.32
Characteristics:
Magnesium hydroxide is an excellent fire retardant used in the rubber and plastic industry because of its triple functions, which are flame retardant, smoke suppression and filler. It is odorless, nontoxic and stable with high decomposition temperature. It does not corrode equipments.
When magnesium hydroxide is heated, it will release hydrogen oxide, which can reduce the surface temperature of the flame by absorbing a lot of heat. These functions can play the role of flame retardant and the vapor can reduce the smoke. Thus it is a good choice for high polymer as a flame retardant without halogen.
